Lab Worker Injured in Test Tube Accident

A lab worker was injured while mixing chemicals at The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center for Chemical Studies on Sunday morning.

The incident happened at the Center on North Torrey Pines Road at around 10:30 a.m.

According to San Diego Fire Rescue spokesperson Maurice Luque, a lab worker was mixing together hot and cold substances when a test tube accidentally broke.

A firefighter at the scene said the lab worker sustained injuries to his face from exposure to the chemicals and glass. The victim’s current condition is unknown.

Hazmat officials were called to the scene to assist following the accident, but Luque said they cleared quickly when they learned it was not a Hazmat situation.

No other injuries were reported.
