Plane Slides to Stop on Runway

A plane with a nose gear problem made an emergency landing Tuesday at the Van Nuys Airport.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the twin-engine Cessna has two people on board. It was heading to Camarillo Tuesday but its nose gear only partially deployed and the pilot decided to turn back.

Gregor said burning off fuel is a usual safety procedure when a plane has to make an unusual landing. He added that while the situation is potentially serious, most pilots experiencing similar nose gear problems land safely.

The plane burned off fuel for about one hour before landing at 12:24 p.m.

Two men exited the plane and did not appear injured.
