Koalapalooza Kicks Off

On a normal day at the zoo, the koala exhibit is one of the quiet spots. The animals are lounging in trees eating or sleeping.

But this weekend, the San Diego Zoo kicks off “Zoo Discovery Days” with Koalapalooza.

With didgeridoo music in the air and the smells of Aussie BBQ, zoo guests will have the chance to chat with koala keepers and learn how they track koalas in the wild.

There’s also the chance to take part in an Aussie-themed scavenger hunt and name a 10-month old koala joey.

The current group of koalas, 22 in all, started in the 1970s and is the largest colony of koalas outside of Australia.
