Kidnapping Suspect Abandoned Infant: Police

The suspect allegedly left his son in the car after hitting two vehicles

Police are searching for a suspect accused of assault and kidnapping a 10-month-old child.

Emilio Piedra, 38, allegedly went to the house of his former wife on June 2, assaulted her and then left the scene in a vehicle with his 10-month-old son. Piedra is currently on parole and was wearing a GPS tracking device at the time of the incident. He drove away when he saw police, and he collided with two other cars as he crossed Santa Fe Drive from California Street.

The suspect then allegedly left his son in the car, fled on foot and has not been found.

The 10-month-old was transported by air ambulance to Scripps Children’s Hospital with moderate injuries. An 11-year-old passenger in one of the other two vehicles involved in the accident sustained minor injuries. Both children have been released from the hospital and are recovering at home.

Piedra is described as a 5-foot-6, 140 pounds and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.
