KPBS Evacuation Was False Alarm

Station employee Gina Diamante told NBC 7, the fire alarm accidentally activated

Listeners of the San Diego-area radio station KPBS heard the news first - the station was told to evacuate its building.

The radio station is located on the campus of San Diego State University.

Viewers called in to NBC 7 concerned about what was happening at the public radio station after hearing the news on the air.

Mayoral candidate David Alvarez posted that he was in the KPBS studio at the time of the evacuation.

Several minutes after San Diegans raised concerns about the safety of employees at the public radio station, officials confirmed it was a false alarm.

Station employee Gina Diamante told NBC 7, the fire alarm accidentally activated.

Employees are returning to the newsroom to continue their programming.
