Mom Calls School District, Threatens to ‘Blow Place Up': PD

An El Cajon mother was arrested Friday for calling her child's school and threatening to "blow the place up," according to El Cajon police.

Julie Rae Moore, 53, called the Cajon Valley Union School District offices at about 8:20 a.m. Friday to talk about issues concerning her child, who attends Montgomery Middle School.

As the conversation escalated, Moore told the school district supervisor that she would blow up the district, police say.

The supervisor kept Moore on the phone until police arrived at her home in the 1300 block of E. Main Street. She was taken into custody at about 9:15 a.m.

During the threat period, the superintendent says Montgomery Middle and Hillsdale Middle schools were put on "secure campus" mode, which is less serious than a lockdown. The secure campus was lifted after about 10 minutes.

Moore was booked into jail on a count of threatening a school employee. On Friday afternoon, she posted bail and was released. NBC 7's requests for Moore's comment by phone and in person have not been returned.

"The El Cajon Police Department, along with the Cajon Valley Union School District, wish to emphasize that the welfare and safety of the students was the primary concern while responding to this event," said Chief of Police Jeff Davis in a release.

The superintendent said the district has had issues with Moore before, but threats were never this violent.

According to San Diego Superior Court records, Moore has had criminal charges filed against her in the past.
