New Details Released in Oceanside Murder-Suicide

Jose Beltran killed his girlfriend Kirsten Jelinski before shooting himself, police say

New details were released Wednesday in the shooting death of a young woman known by many in the North County softball community.

Kirsten Jelinski, 25, was shot and killed April 1 by her ex-boyfriend inside the condo they shared in Oceanside.

Jelinski was in the shower at the home on Vista Del Rio Way when she screamed, a witness told investigators.

Jose Beltran, 25, shot Jelinski twice in the head before turning the gun on himself, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's report.

Jelinski’s brother told investigators he heard three gunshots coming from inside his sister’s bedroom then saw blood running underneath the bedroom door.

The victim’s brother ran for help.

When officers arrived, they had trouble getting into the victim’s bedroom because the door was blocked by a mattress.

On April 1, the two were packing up to move out of their Oceanside condominium when police say Beltran shot Jelinski in the head before turning the gun on himself. He died the next day.

The medical examiner’s report said that Beltran had been sleeping on the couch prior to the shooting. Kirsten and her brother were planning on driving Beltran to his mother’s in Los Angeles on the day of the shooting.

Jelinski was actively involved in the North County softball community, playing at San Marcos and Mission Hills high schools before making her way to Villanova University for college.
