Trial to Begin in Deadly Drive-Thru Fight

A Spring Valley man faces a charge of murder after a deadly fight that began in a McDonald’s drive-thru more than a year ago.

Jorge Osuna, 26, of National City died June 18, 2014 two days after he was pinned between a car and a building at the Avocado Village condo complex in La Mesa.

Darius Watkins-Risberg, of Spring Valley, is accused in Osuna's death. He was in an El Cajon courtroom Monday as jury selection in the trial began.

Osuna died after a confrontation in the early morning hours of June 16 in the drive-thru of a McDonald’s restaurant in unincorporated La Mesa, San Diego County Sheriff's homicide investigators said.

After the fight, two vehicles followed Osuna’s car to the condo complex. One of the vehicles drove straight toward the victim, but swerved before hitting him. That vehicle then went into reverse, crushing Osuna against a wall.

Watkins-Risberg was arrested later that day. He faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted.

Opening statements aren't expected to begin until Jan. 19, court officials tell NBC 7.
