Smuggling Attempt Via Jet Ski Thwarted

A man’s attempt to sneak into the U.S. via jet ski was foiled by Border Patrol agents, according to border officials.

At about 5 a.m. Thursday morning, a concerned citizen and harbor officials alerted agents to a suspicious jet ski heading north from Mexico along the Imperial Beach coast.

One person on the watercraft was dropped off near Imperial Beach Boulevard, where agents converged and found the 32-year-old Mexican national hiding behind rocks on the beach.

According to investigators, the man was not legally allowed to be in the U.S. He was arrested and taken to a local Border Patrol station.

This is the second jet ski smuggling attempt caught by Border Patrol this week. On Sunday, a man and a woman were arrested after they were dropped off near the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado by jet ski.
