Jack in the Box Robbed, Cook Attacked with Box-Cutter

The weapon caused several minor cuts to the cook's hands.

A La Mesa Jack in the Box cook was attacked with a box cutter early Thursday morning.

The fast food restaurant on the 6000 block of Lake Murray Blvd. was only open for drive-through service when the suspect scaled a wall behind the restaurant's freezer, police said.

The cook spotted the suspect and tried to fight him, but was injured with what appeared to be a box cutter. The weapon caused several minor cuts to the cook's hands.

The suspect then demanded cash from the other employee in the restaurant. When she returned with the cash, the suspect was holding the cook's head with the box cutter to his throat.

The suspect then fled and the employee called police.

Police searched the area by helicopter and on the ground, but could not find him. They describe him as about 5'8'' tall in his mid-20's. He was wearing a dark sweater and black pants with a piece of cloth covering his face. He mostly spoke Spanish, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-1400.
