Intoxicated 70-Year-Old Causes Standoff

A two-hour standoff ends safely

The 70-year-old man who caused a two-hour standoff in Spring Valley Saturday night is recovering, after he fell and hit his head while being processed at the Sheriff's substation.

The man, identified as John Graham, was apparently fighting with his wife, detectives said. Before deputies arrived, Graham's wife fled the residence after hearing a gunshot inside the house.

Deputies on the scene made numerous telephone calls into the residence and used loud speakers; however, initially, Graham gave no replies.

Around 10:00 p.m. Graham, presented himself to authorities, unarmed. He was taken to the Lemon Grove station, where he later fell down and injured his head, due to his level of intoxication, according to Sheriff’s Deputies.

Graham was taken to a hospital for evaluation, said Lt. Jim Walker, a department spokesman. Walker added the man did not suffer from gunshot wounds as was previously reported.

Graham will likely be charged with shooting a weapon at an inhabited dwelling.
