5 Injured in I-8 Crash Near Old Town

The collision shut down several lanes of the freeway and led to a bumper-to-bumper traffic jam

Five people were injured in a collision on westbound Interstate 8 near Old Town San Diego Thursday morning, which caused a major traffic mess on the freeway.

The crash happened just before 10 a.m. at I-8 and Taylor Street.

CHP officials said multiple vehicles were involved and several lanes were blocked. A SigAlert was issued immediately following the accident. As of 10:30 a.m., westbound traffic was backed up all the way to Texas Street.

Fire officials said five people were transported from the scene to local hospitals with unspecified injuries.

By 10:50 a.m., all lanes had reopened. The accident should be cleared up shortly, officials said. Get up-to-the-minute traffic updates here.
