Car Battery Thefts Increase in Chula Vista

Car battery thefts have increased substantially in the southwest portion of Chula Vista, the Chula Vista Police Department said Wednesday.

Police said there have been increased reports of car battery thefts in the area since May. The majority of victims are business owners or are somehow related to local commercial businesses.

To decrease the frequency of these types of crime, the Chula Vista Police Department has issued some prevention tips.

Police urge people to lock and secure their cars and inscribe their battery on the top and sides with the license plate number of the vehicle it belongs to.

Officers also encourage commercial businesses to re-evaluate current security measures and consider installing new, more adequate fencing, lighting and surveillance cameras.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or a battery theft in progress should report the incident to police by calling (619) 691-5151.
