A 17-inch water pipe broke early Friday morning, causing heavy flooding in Imperial Beach streets.
The water main broke on Palm Ave. at about 1:30 a.m., authorities said.
Crews responded as water gushed into the streets. Several blocks near the main break were flooded, and residents nearby said their water had been shut off.
At sunrise, traffic began to build up in the area, and patches of standing water still lined the streets. Palm Ave. was closed while crews broke into the pavement to repair the pipe.
The street will remain closed into the afternoon as crews repave the road.
