A judge heard horrifying testimony Tuesday at the trial of a man accused of stabbing his Pacific Beach roommate to death last year.
Judge Bernard Revak ordered Ian Suazo, 22, to stand trial Tuesday in the stabbing death of his roommate last fall. Revak ruled that there was enough evidence in the case for Suazo to face trial on first-degree murder charges in the death of Ocie Raines on Sept. 24.
Suazo immediately pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. His lawyer said Suazo was in the early stages of schizophrenia when Raines was killed.
During the two-hour preliminary hearing, neighbor Blair Robb testified he heard someone thrown against the wall in that apartment, then heard someone cry "help, help, help."
" 'You're killing me,' " Robb said he heard. " 'I don't want to die. Ian, you're killing me.' "
After the killing, Suazo cut his own wrists, and later ran into traffic, where he was hit by a car.
Suazo could be sentenced to 26 years to life in prison if he is found guilty.
Suazo is scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 24.
