A mother and her 14-year old daughter are in the hospital Sunday morning after they were stabbed multiple times by the mother's husband.
Just after 10 p.m. Saturday night, Oceanside Police responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon at the Presidio Apartments on the 4400 block of Mission Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found that the 28-year-old husband, identified as Orlando Barela, stabbed his 40-year old wife several times. She collapsed in front of the apartment building.
After attacking his wife, Barela chased his 14-year old step-daughter to her grandparent’s apartment and also stabbed her multiple times. The girl's grandparents and neighbors intervened during the assault and held Barela on the ground until officers arrived.
The 14-year old was taken to Rady Children's Hospital and her mom was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. They’re both expected to survive.
Oceanside police arrested the 28-year old man. He’s been booked into the Vista Detention Facility on two counts of attempted murder. Detectives are still investigating the incident.
Barela will be arraigned on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
