Man Who Entered Del Mar Home Was Suffering From Psychiatric Emergency: PD

A Del Mar resident called Sheriff's deputies to report an unknown man who had just entered his house.

The incident happened at approximately 3:12 p.m. Tuesday at a home on the 100 block of Via de la Valle, San Diego County Sheriff's officials (SDSO) said.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the call -- initially reported as a hot prowl burglary -- but quickly established the man who entered the home was suffering from a psychiatric emergency.

Deputies set a perimeter around the home and called the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT).

PERT officials responded to the scene and began negotiating with the man.

Deputies were able to take him safely into custody. He was taken to Tri-City Hospital for evaluation.
