Seven Horses From Runaway Herd Taken Away

There were more developments Thursday at the OK Corral in Otay Mesa.

The San Diego County Department of Animal Services took five horses and two foals that were part of Wednesday's runaway herd away from the managers of the horse ranch

On Wednesday, 11 horses galloped down the Olympic Parkway before making their way to the Olympic Training Center and points further east. They were all eventually being recaptured by a half-dozen cowboys.

Animal Services spokesman Dan DeSousa said Thursday that the horses were taken away because the ranch manager claimed the horses as strays. The horses will be taken to the Bonita shelter and examined. DeSousa said the animals may have been injured during the incident on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, OK Corral manager Paul Rucobo said he and his wife were extremely disappointed by the develop. He said that they took the horses in to care for them. He also said that one of the horses that he used to help round up the runaway herd suffered a serious leg injury and may have to be put down.
