Homeless, but Hopeful Mothers

Mothers Pampered

"A lot of people look down at us, like there's something wrong with us," said Pamela Marshmani, a mother who lost her home, and now lives with her children in a shelter downtown.

On Sunday, Marshmani, and other mothers at the shelter were treated to facials, and other treatments by salon owner Jim Leckliter.

"To be able to help them achieve or help them reach towards that goal of feeling good about themselves is just priceless," he said.

More than 70 mothers with their children are now living at Father Joe's Village downtown.  The shelter also provides services to more than 200 kids on a daily basis.  Father Joe Carroll said he's seen a significant increase in the number of families lately, "If you're poor or low income, you're the first one affected by hard times.  So we got a waiting list."

The women who received the treatments were extremely grateful.  Leckliter said he enjoyed donating his time and plans on doing it again next year.
