A search was under way Thursday for two armed men who forced their way into southeastern San Diego, strongarmed a family and stole their cars, police said.
The men knocked on the door of a home at 512 Toyne St. in the Mount Hope area shortly after 8:30 a.m. and asked a woman for water, police said. When she turned her back, they pushed their way into the house. One suspect armed with a handgun, allegedly confronted the woman's husband and 13-year-old daughter. The suspects then forced the man, woman, and girl to a back bedroom, where they demanded cash.
The suspects took the keys to the family van, the husband’s wallet and cell phone, and the house phone so they couldn’t call the police, before fleeing, police said.
One suspect fled in a cream colored Infiniti sedan, described only as oval shaped in the rear. The other suspect drove off in the family van, a 1999 Dodge Caravan, California license 6FNJ861, white in color with tinted windows, a dent in the right rear corner, and one bumper sticker.
One suspect was described as Hispanic, 20-30 years old, thin build, short black hair slicked back, moustache. He was wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue pants that appeared paint stained.
The other suspect was described as Hispanic, in his 30’s, about 5 feet 8 inches, medium build, shaved head, wearing a red sweater, grey hooded sweatshirt.
