Hit-and-Run Crash Investigation Closes Balboa Avenue

San Diego Police closed down Balboa Avenue in Clairemont Thursday to investigate a hit-and-run crash involving a van and a scooter.

The incident happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. near Balboa Avenue and Mt. Everest Boulevard.

Officers say a white van dragged a Vespa 50 to 75 yards before coming to a stop. The driver of the white van left the vehicle, officers said.

The scooter driver was transported to a nearby hospital.

Police say the driver of the Vespa suffered minor injuries and is expected to survive.

The driver of the van came up behind the Vespa and hit him from behind, police said. The Vespa driver was transported on the hood of the van for about 50 yards.

San Diego Police patrol cars blocked off Balboa Avenue in both directions at Mt. Culebra to Genesee Avenue for several hours.
