A man convicted of stabbing another man to death during a fight over a missing skateboard in San Diego has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Richard Sherman, 31, was sentence to 12 years in prison on Monday for the stabbing death of Manuel Santiago, 25. Sherman said he stabbed Santiago in an alley "out of frustration" after a pair of fistfights involving the missing skateboard.
Sherman pleaded guilty in October to voluntary manslaughter and the use of a knife for the July stabbing in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. Sherman was originally charged with murder and had faced 26 years to life in prison.
The prosecutor said officials believe both men were transients. Santiago, a New Jersey resident who had been in San Diego for a month or two.
