A hiker died on the Mount Woodson trail in Poway, according to officials.
The Poway Fire Department received a call shortly after 11 a.m. for a male hiker collapsed on the trail going toward Lake Poway.
Helicopters were released to the scene and deployed medics, who arrived to find fellow hikers performing CPR on the man. He did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We did everything we could, but weren’t able to save him,” said Poway Fire Division Chief Kevin Hitchcock.
He described the victim as an elderly male and his group was near the top of the mountain when the incident occurred.
