Police Pursue Stolen Motorcycle

Police detected a stolen motorcycle at Del Mar Heights Road and a pursuit ensued with the rider

A high-speed pursuit ensued on southbound Interstate 5 Thursday night when a suspect on a motorcycle failed to pull over for police.

According to authorities, police officers detected a stolen motorcycle in the Del Mar Heights area just before 10 p.m. Officers followed the motorcycle southbound on I-5 to Clairemont Drive and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the rider.

However, instead of complying, the rider took off heading southbound on I-5, hitting speeds in excess of 100 mph, police said.

Police then dropped the ground pursuit and followed the motorcycle by air on SDPD helicopter.

Eventually, the rider exited the I-5 near D Avenue and East 24th Street in National City, where he abandoned the motorcycle and ran into an apartment complex. The suspect hid on a residential balcony as police continued searching for him on foot.

After the short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old National City resident Henry Irenio Pulido.

He’s currently being held at San Diego Central Jail on charges of vehicle theft and evading police and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
