High-Speed Chase From Chula Vista to Solana Beach Ends With Arrest

A pursuit on Interstate 5 spanned the county as a driver led officers on a high-speed chase from Chula Vista to Solana Beach Tuesday.

The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) was initially called for a man who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle at the intersection of Palomar Street and Broadway at about 4:45 a.m., CVPD Lt. Rusty Rea said.

When the officers attempted to communicate with the driver, he sped off and got onto northbound Interstate 5.

CVPD followed the vehicle through the South Bay until it reached the Clairemont area. At that point, California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over, Rea said.

The driver reached speeds of over 95 miles an hour.

The chase came to a close in Solana Beach, about 30 miles from where it began.

The driver was apprehended and faces charges of felony evasion and possibly others, Rea said. It was unclear if alcohol or drugs were suspected.
