Hikers Rescued from Cliff

Three hikers were rescued off a cliff Sunday by a San Diego County sheriff's helicopter in Solana Beach.

A teenaged girl hiking with two friends fell and hurt her back and neck, according to Solana Beach firefighters. The three teens got stuck in an area south of the San Elijo Lagoon and west of Solana Hills Drive around 4:30 p.m.

The cliffs were not stable enough to set up a haul line so rescuers brought in a chopper and lifted the hikers out. The fog rolling in from the ocean hampered the rescue as well, according to firefighters.

The injured hiker was transported to a local hospital. Her two friends were also lifted to safety.
