A manhunt was underway Wednesday after an armed bank robber threatened to blow up a Chula Vista bank building and stole a substantial amount of money, said police.
An employee and the manager of the Pacific Trust Bank on Bay Boulevard were leaving Tuesday when they say an armed masked man stepped out from behind some bushes and said: “Let's all go back inside”.
The robber said that a partner outside the bank had a bomb and if they did not do what he said, it would detonate. The suspect took the employees into the vault and told them to use their keys to open a smaller safe where money was stored, police said. The robber grabbed bags of cash and drove away in one of the employee's cars.
Police are looking for the vehicle, described as a silver Toyota Celica with a California license plate of 4MNX084.
The robber was described as in his 50s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 205 to 220 pounds. He had salt and pepper hair and bushy eyebrows. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt, blue jeans, blue and white gloves and white shoes.
No bomb was found at the scene said police.
