Giant Housing Project OK'd

City Council green-lights Mission Valley project

A plan to build almost 5,000 new homes in Mission Valley got the green light on Tuesday.

The Quarry Falls project was approved Tuesday evening by the San Diego City Council. The development will be built west of Interstate 805 and north of Friars Road. The location has been home to a rock quarry for more than 60 years.  Also on the drawing board for inclusion: nearly 1 million square feet of retail and office space, a new school and parks.

The plan did not get the go-ahead without opposition. Neighborhood residents complained at the City Council meeting about the increase of residents and traffic in the area.

There is no word yet on when construction on the project will begin.
