Gaslamp Outages Planned During Busiest Hours

Restaurants prepare for planned outages on Wednesday

A power outage planned for Wednesday night will hit Gaslamp restaurants and shops during their busiest business hours, they say.

SDG&E scheduled the outage on 4th Ave. between Market and Island Streets for 8 p.m. Wednesday night through 6 a.m. Thursday morning, a representative said.

Over 70 customers will be affected by this outage. They have all been notified of the change, but say it will still harm their businesses.

"Our customers are going to be disappointed that we are not going to be open to take care of them," said Fred Gomez, owner of Las Hadas in the Gaslamp. "It is the second time it's happened this year. So hopefully this will be the last time we go through this inconvenience for our regular customers."

Gomez and others expect to lose thousands of dollars in business from the planned outage.

The outage is scheduled to address some regular maintenence and urgent repairs to power lines and equipment.

SDG&E apologized for the inconvenience, and said they try to work closely with customers to find the best time to work on the repairs.

"Planned outages help prevent forced or unplanned outages that occur suddenly, which can leave customers unprepared and with no opportunity to plan," said a spokesperson for SDG&E.
