A contractor struck a two-inch gas line in 4S Ranch Wednesday afternoon, creating a leak.
San Diego Police Department secured three intersections to control traffic near the leak at Coyote Bush Drive, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The gas leak is near an elementary school and a Target, both were told to shelter in place, SDFD said.
The orders were lifted after 40 minutes, but nearby streets remained blocked.
No evacuations were ordered, and no injuries were reported, according to SDFD.
