Phillip and Nancy Garrido, the couple charged with kidnapping Jaycee Dugard and holding her captive for 18 years, have made a full confession to police, an attorney said Monday.
What could be more of a surprise than the confession is the fact that Dugard was present during one of Nancy Garrido's interviews with investigators, said the suspect's attorney.
Attorney Stephen Tapson said the meeting was apparently the first time the women have been face-to-face since the Garridos arrest in 2009. They sat in the same room, directly across from each other at a table, said Tapson.
Dugard was not present when police were speaking to Phillip Garrido, said Tapson.
Tapson told reporters that the Garridos were re-interviewed by detectives within the last month and admitted everything.
Tapson says the suspects have not worked out a plea deal, but prosecutors have proposed sentencing Phillip Garrido to 440 years in prison and his wife to more than 241 years.
Phillip Garrido's attorney, Susan Gellman, did comment Monday. Neither did the El Dorado County District Attorney's office.
