Fundraising Dog Earns National Honor

Ricochet is a golden retriever who helped deliver toys to hospital bound kids

The American Kennel Club is honoring five really good dogs including one from San Diego.

Ricochet, owned by Judy Fridono of Escondido, delivered toys to Rady Children's Hospital during the holidays last December.  She arrived with a Santa in board shorts to donate $3,550 in toy donations collected by a "Surfin' Santa Paws" toy drive.

For her efforts, Ricochet has been named one of five winners of the "AKC Humane Fund Awards for Canine Excellence." The awards was announced Thursday in New York City.

A golden retriever who surfs for charity, Ricochet became a YouTube celebrity when her video "From Service Dog to SURFice dog" went viral.

She's been instrumental in helping teach disabled children how to surf like this lesson that took place in August 2009 with Patrick Ivison using an adaptive surfboard.

She and four other dogs will receive $1,000 prizes on Dec. 5th in Long Beach.
