Fresh & Easy, the Southern California convenient grocery store chain, is closing all of its stores, including eight locations in San Diego County.
The chain issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon, stating the company is beginning an “organized wind down" after a failed reorganization the past couple years.
“We have been unable to obtain financing and the liquidity necessary to continue to fund the business going forward,” the statement said. “As we start the process for an organized wind down of the business, we continue to work to sell all or part of the business.”
The closures impact a number of locations across San Diego County, including popular stores in North Park and Point Loma.
Here are the stores shuttering:
- San Diego: 3231 East University Avenue.
- San Diego: 955 Catalina Blvd.
- San Diego: 8788 Navajo Road
- San Diego: 6755 Mira Mesa
- Vista: 945 E. Vista Way
- Oceanside: 1640 Oceanside Blvd.
- Oceanside: 4908 North River Road
- Fallbrook: 1101 S. Main
Southern California-based The Yucaipa Cos. bought the chain out of bankruptcy in 2013 from British retailer Tesco.
In March, the company closed about 50 stores in California, Nevada and Arizona to pursue a new business model.
