Free Patrols Check Homes During Vacation

Volunteers look for suspicious activity

Who do you rely on to check your home when you leave for vacation? In many cases people ask their friends or neighbors to keep an eye on their home.

But many forget that Police and Sheriff's senior volunteers will patrol your home, and it's absolutely free.

John Mason walked around a home in Poway today looking for anything that didn't look right. He and his volunteer partner checked the windows and doors for any suspicious activity.

He says it's a great way to leave your home and have peace of mind that someone will be looking out for you.

"It's eyes and ears while they are away," said John Mason. "They feel comfortable that someone does come by on a daily basis and check it."

Sheriff's volunteers will also hide your newspaper and packages in your side fence or back patio. And if anything looks unusual, they will call full-time deputies.

To take advantage of this free service, complete and return a vacation check form to your nearest Sheriff’s station or substation. A full list of our patrol stations, their addresses and telephone numbers can be found on the sheriff's website.
