The Bolts Brought In Winners To Fix Losing

When the Chargers went about signing free agents, a theme showed up. They targeted players who fit their system (and budget), but also came from winning programs.

Robert Meachem's Saints and Eddie Royal's Broncos both made the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2011, and Meachem won a Super Bowl in 2009 with the Saints.

Jarret Johnson's Ravens were a missed field goal away from going to the Super Bowl in January.

Le'Ron McClain went to the playoffs for three straight seasons when he was with Baltimore.

So, they all gather in San Diego, where the Chargers have missed the post-season for two straight years. These new guys aren't used to playing 16 games and going home. When they arrived at Chargers Park, they picked up the sense of playoff urgency quickly.

"The guys who were not a part of that the last couple of years have quickly become a part of that," said quarterback Philip Rivers. "It's headed in the right direction."

That direction is, hopefully, on a heading that points to playing games in January again.
