Evacuations were ordered when a brush fire reached about one-quarter acre Sunday afternoon in Mid-City, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials.
The flames started spreading north of El Cajon Blvd. near Fairmount Ave. around 12:30 p.m.
Crews had to stage around structures to prevent them from being damaged or destroyed. San Diego Police officers assisted with brief residential evacuations, according to Officer Dan Lasher.
However, by 1 p.m., firefighters had contained the fire and were working to mop up hot spots.
