Fitness Business Joins Mercado del Barrio Roster

Fitness services provider Fathom CrossFit has joined the tenant roster at Mercado del Barrio, the mixed-use residential and retail development in San Diego’s Barrio Logan neighborhood.

The company has opened a 3,254-square-foot studio at 1985 National Ave., Suite 1129, in the center developed and operated by Shea Properties of Aliso Viejo. The studio offers programs including aerobics, muscle training, gymnastics and weight-lifting.

The $80 million Mercado del Barrio, located on 6.8 acres under the San Diego Coronado Bridge near Interstate 5, opened in 2012 and is anchored by a 36,000-square-foot location of Hispanic grocer Northgate Gonzalez Markets. Shea Properties said other tenants recently opening there include Tocumbo Ice Cream, T-Mobile, and Hispanic Professional Services, a tax-preparation business.

Shea officials said Little Caesars Pizza and National Laundry & Dry Clean will be opening soon. Mercado del Barrio’s 92 apartments are currently fully leased.

Broker McKinney Advisory Group represented Fathon CrossFit in the recent leasing transaction, and Cushman & Wakefield represented Shea Properties. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Shea Properties, a division of J.F. Shea Co. Inc., owns and operates approximately 6,150 apartment units and 5.5 million square feet of commercial space in California and Colorado, with nearly $1 billion in development projects underway.
