Fisherman Washes Ashore After Boat Capsizes

The body of a fisherman, last seen when his boat capsized early Monday morning, was found later in the afternoon on a Mission Beach shore.

The body of a man identified by family as Edgar Paglumotan washed ashore near Mission Beach's Tower 13 just before 4 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

A department official confirmed the body was that of a man whose boat tipped over at around 1 a.m. Monday in Mission Beach.

His friend told police that he and Paglumotan were out fishing for lobster when a wave crashed over their boat, causing it to capsize. Both fishermen were thrown into the water.

According to the relative on the boat with Paglumotan, he is not a good swimmer, and the last time he saw the victim he screamed Paglumotan's name and then saw him go under.

Lifeguards and San Diego Fire-Rescue's helicopter searched for the 50-year-old Paglumotan for more than an hour, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the surviving fisherman was transported to UCSD Medical Center.
