Firefighters Battle Apartment Blaze

Firefighters on Saturday quickly put out a two-alarm fire at a La Mesa apartment complex.

At least one apartment unit was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, a Heartland Fire & Rescue dispatcher said. The fire was first reported around 8:45 a.m. in the 8200 block of Vincetta Drive, and the flames were knocked down around 9:18 a.m.

La Mesa Fire Department Battalion Chief Bent Koch said the apartment is ruined and estimated damages are about $100,000.

Investigators believe no one was inside the unit at the time the blaze began. No injuries were reported, but all apartment units at the La Mesa Terrace complex were evacuated.

Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
