A two alarm fire in Encinitas destroys a home.
Firefighters say it started just before 9 this morning on Village Green Drive.
According to firefighters, the resident says he had a fire going in the fireplace and left it unattended.
He says furniture that was too close to fireplace caught fire after an ember ignited it.
Chief Scott Henry from the Encinitas Fire department says it's a reminder that people need to be careful.
"Make sure that the screen is on the front to prevent any embers from coming out. Make sure the fire is not left unattended... I can't stress that enough, not even for a few moments bad things can happen," said Henry.
Firefighters say all 8 people living in the home escaped without injury.
