Fire Wakes Up a Southcrest Neighborhood

Residents of a Southcrest apartment complex woke up to a neighbor yelling "Fire, get out", just around 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the fire located in the back of the small two-story complex located in the 3800-block of Boston Avenue.

When the fire broke out, resident Ricardo Medina says he heard his neighbor yelling, he stepped outside, saw the flames and then ran back inside to get his family and upstairs neighbor out of the building.

Medina says he thinks the fire may have started in an apartment that a family was in the process of vacating.

Investigators are looking into the official cause of the fire. The Red Cross was called in to provide assistance to the victims.
