Fire Tears Through La Jolla Complex

A 72-year-old woman was hospitalized and 11 people were displaced after a morning condo fire in La Jolla.

The fire started just before 10 a.m. at the La Jolla Capri Aire complex on the 5300 block of La Jolla Boulevard.

Students at Bird Rock Elementary School, which is directly across the street from the complex, briefly evacuated. No one was injured.

The fire started in a second story unit of a three-story building. The unit is where the 72-year-old woman lives. The condo above suffered smoke damage, and the one below the elderly woman's was damaged by water. In all, six units were impacted by the fire.

Right now, the cause of the fire is unknown and there has yet to be a damage estimate.
