Fire Sparks in Carlsbad Apartment For Second Time in the Area

Firefighters responded to a fire inside a Carlsbad apartment Thursday night--the address is near the area where a fire had sparked just a day earlier.

North Comm Fire says they responded to the fire around 9:20 p.m. on the 2200 block of Avenida Magnifica in one of the apartment units.

The fire was knocked out in about 30 minutes. But residents in nearby apartment units who had been initially evacuated were not let back in as of 10 p.m.

There is no reports of any injuries, according to North Comm.

On Wednesday night, firefighters had responded to a fire in one of the apartments on the same block around 9 p.m. Investigators discovered the resident, 33-year old Jesse Estes, had been manufacturing marijuana in the unit and took him into custody Thursday morning.

Investigators said Estes had been attempting to extract hash oil from marijuana using butane when an explosion set off a fire in the kitchen.

But it's unknown if the fires are related.

No other information was immediately available.
