13-Acre Cinnamon Fire 100 Percent Contained, 1 Home Destroyed: Cal Fire

A brush fire that sparked in Ramona Friday afternoon off Old Julian Highway in Witch Creek threatened an animal boarding facility and destroyed a home on the property.

Flames from the Cinnamon Fire engulfed a single-family home and nearly destroyed the Kritter Camp Rescue dog boarding and rescue facility.

There were animals, dogs, and horses that needed to be removed from the area, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Department Lt. Baggs. Several dogs were still in kennels on the property as the fire raged close by.

The owner of the property told NBC 7 all animals on the property were accounted for and uninjured. They said they weren't home at the time the fire was burning.

An outbuilding on the property was also damaged, Cal Fire said.

The fire was initially at two acres at 1:40 p.m. and had grown to 10 acres as of 2:04 p.m. More accurate GPS mapping sized the fire at 13 acres at around 7:30 p.m.

Cal Fire said crews had stopped the forward spread of the blaze at around 2:15 p.m. and had reached full containment at around 9:30 p.m.
