Fire Burns at Kit Carson Park

The fire burned for about 30 minutes

A fire that burned Thursday morning at Kit Carson Park in Escondido could have been much worse, according to firefighters.

The vegetation fire started burning at 6.45 a.m. and was knocked down around 7.15 a.m., according to firefighters.

They say the fire was contained quickly, despite the nearest Escondido station being shut down because of temporary reconstruction.

The source of the fire is likely a homeless encampment, according to firefighters. It appears about 12 people were camped out with tents and fire pits.

The fire could have been worse since the park is heavily wooded with a lot of brush, according to firefighters.

No one was injured in the fire.
