Feds Target Mexican Mafia in San Diego

More than 30 alleged drug dealers have been charged with racketeering, firearms crimes and drug trafficking for their alleged roles in a crime wave orchestrated by the "Mexican Mafia".

Federal prosecutors in San Diego say the gang members carried out kidnappings, extortions and organized drug dealing on behalf of the Mexican Mafia.

In one case, prosecutors said the Mexican Mafia assisted two Mexican nationals in collecting a drug debt in San Diego. The defendants allegedly invaded the vcictim's home, threatened to open fire, then stole four vehicles and two thousand dollars cash.

The suspects then threatened to kill the victim and the victim's family if law enforcement was notified.

The charges are the culmination of a year-long investigation called "Operation Keys to the City" conducted by the San Diego Violent Crimes Task Force-Gang Group.
