Father, Daughter Hit by Driver

Both are hospitalized with serious injuries

A father and daughter are hospitalized after they are hit by a driver in Serra Mesa.

The 35-year-old man was crossing Ruffin Road with his 5-year-old daughter to drop her off at her mother's house, said San Diego Police Sgt. Art Doherty.

The two were walking in a dark section of the street without a crosswalk.

A man driving a red pickup did not see the pedestrians and hit them.

Medics responded to the scene and took the father -- who was still unconscious-- to Mercy Hospital. According to police, he suffered multiple broken bones in his left leg and a brain bleed.

His daughter was taken to Rady Children's Hospital with a broken jaw.

Sgt. Doherty said there were no signs that alcohol or drugs were involved and that the driver was very upset about the incident. The SDPD traffic division is investigating.
