20-Year-Old Killed in Fatal Freeway Rollover Crash

The collision happened on southbound I-805 at Main Street in Chula Vista during rush hour

The victim of a fatal rollover crash on southbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista has been identified by the medical examiner.

According to the ME, 20-year-old Escondido resident Sebastian Aranda was the passenger who died in the freeway collision that happened Friday afternoon.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. near the Main Street and Auto Park Drive exit.

Medics were requested for two patients but Aranda was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ME report said Aranda was the restrained passenger of a black sedan that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control, swerved across the traffic lanes and hit and embankment and light post before rolling over and coming to rest.

CHP issued a Sig Alert following the accident and blocked off the two right lanes of the freeway.

The collision is under investigation. No further information has been confirmed about the driver or whether alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.
