Man Dies Crossing Lanes of WB I-905

Officials have identified a man who was killed Friday morning after being struck by several cars while he crossed westbound Interstate 905 south of San Diego.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's (ME) office confirmed the pedestrian was Ramon Beltran, 69, of San Ysidro.

Following the deadly accident at approximately 6:10 a.m., traffic was diverted at the WB I-905 connector to northbound Interstate 5.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers said the man attempted to cross the westbound lanes of traffic from the right shoulder to the center median.

A 32-year-old woman from San Diego, driving a 2006 Ford Explorer, began to take the connector to I-5 when she saw the pedestrian. She did not have time to swerve away, so she struck the man, the CHP said.

Other vehicles hit his body, killing him.

The vehicles pulled over and stopped and waited for CHP officers to arrive.

The section of I-905 was reopened just before 10 a.m.

The collision remains under investigation.
