Escondido's Only Skatepark Is Closing

The skatepark is yet another victim of budget cuts

It was touted as a place to provide healthy recreation. But now, the only skatepark in the City of Escondido, is closing.

Earlier this week, the Escondido City Council refused to halt its plan to close a projected $2.9 million  deficit, by closing both city pools and the skatepark.

The decision comes even though dozens of people asked the council to save the skatepark.

There's also a petition signed by more than 2-thousand others. But, the park lost more than $100,000 during the last fiscal year.

Given the budget cutbacks, the city couldn't justify keeping it open.
